How to track clicks on an Instagram link

Put a trackable link where you post, tag it by place, and read the dashboard. You will see how many people tapped, where they were, what they used and when, and how many reached the app.

Four steps

  1. 01

    Make a link

Create a ZRO link to the page you want people to reach, such as your shop, a video or a booking page.

  2. 02

    Tag it

Add UTM tags for the source, medium and campaign, so that taps are grouped by what you posted.

  3. 03

    Place it

Use the link in your bio, a story, a post or a message. Use a different tag for each place.

  4. 04

    Read the results

Open the dashboard to see taps by source and campaign, the countries and devices, the hour, and how many reached the app.

Tag each place you post

One link in your bio and one in a story will look the same unless you tag them. Add a campaign name to each. Build the tags with the free UTM builder, and keep the names the same every time. The result looks like this:

What the dashboard shows

Taps are people, not requests: link-preview bots are filtered out. You see taps over time, where each came from, countries, devices and operating systems, the hour of day, and the share of visitors who left Instagram’s built-in browser and reached the app. Look through it with sample data.

If links on Instagram open somewhere unexpected, this explains why.

Questions

Can I see who clicked my Instagram link?

Not by name. Instagram does not pass that to the sites you link to, and ZRO does not collect it. You can see how many people tapped, which country and device they used, and when.

Why does Instagram’s own count not match mine?

Instagram counts taps on its side, and some of those people close the page before it loads. A link counter counts the people who reached the link. Small differences are normal.

Do I need a business account?

No. A ZRO link works anywhere you can post a link, with any kind of account.

Does this work for TikTok and X too?

Yes. Use a different source tag for each and compare them in the dashboard.
